Portfolios: November 2014 Curator Reviewed Art

Thank you Kristen, for your great review, it's interesting to hear how others perceive my work, Kath.
Curator’s Comments:
Strength of Hex is an interesting piece; partly organic, part technological or scientific. The thin vertical square format reminds me of a board game, which is exacerbated by the idea of opposing forces. The various media used are potentially loaded with layered connotations. Honey, besides being a sweet substance, is an ancient salve for wounds and never deteriorates, while the gold denotes preciousness and a primary chemical element. I find it intriguing that both materials offer malleability, but remain precisely fixed in this work. The beehive or honeycomb grid is suggestive of a complex stratified society as ‘worker bees’ feed and serve their queen. I’m also attracted to the purely formal sculptural dimensions of the piece when both sides are considered. It is elegant in its clean craftsmanship and subtlety of color and line.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
