This piece is a study in vertical drops, or more clearly stated, an attempt to recreate the uneasy feeling of being high up, but at the same time the characters actions reflect the opposite, comfort, so there is a duality to it as well.

Curator’s Comment:
I’ve been looking at the new work you’ve posted on the site, and I’m very intrigued by the dynamic ways in which you use space- from elegant, economic compositions, to densely packed, cacophony of narration. Dreams of Flying fits the former category, with the obtuse angle of the inward gazing figure. Whether in sleep or just repose, the shorn head and closed eyes give a mood of introspection or detachment. I also see the dreamer as androgynous- enforcing the ambiguity of the image. Formally, I adore the stippled detail in contrast to the velvety black upper left portion of the figure. Angled downward so that the visual weight veers off course, there is a mood of ever so slight apprehension. Ipaneman Dreams fits the later, chaotic approach to the environment. The high chroma color, as you suggest, is psychedelic. There’s a hallucinatory insistence on the most saturated hues, affording the viewer very little visual reprieve. The value pattern is such that by way of its low contrast, all of the forms flow into one another despite distinct boundaries of color. But the deep red-violet street guides me through the space, and anchors the dizzying display of pattern and texture. The shifting perspective could be disconcerting, but instead imparts a whimsical mood into the scene. The figures seem to be engaged in some questionable activities, as they competing for space to perform and interact.
