Curator’s Comments:
I find myself intrigued by the wide stretch of your artistic practice as evidenced by the range of work in your portfolio on the site. I’m attracted to different works for their disparate approaches; this photograph (pink wall) for the drastic contrasting bands of texture and color. While I could interpret a deliberate attraction to randomness in your photographs, this dissonance actually looks carefully constructed. The erosion of the painted wall for instance, doesn’t relish an erosive patina, but sets it matter-of-factly up against the dark edge of the ground. A sliver of the top edge frames the upper boundary of the picture, but the careful cut off is broken by the inclusion of the brushy foliage in the upper right corner. The thin white crack underneath the green branch then nicely frames its formal/elemental difference within the larger composition. Alternately, the drawings, such as Draw 3-07 are stark and graphic by comparison. The natural organic striations in the cropped landscape are framed by realistically rendered leaves. The openness of the negative space at the bottom is a sharp visual cut off, making the viewer feel witness to a particularly selected slice of life.
