Curator’s Comments:
I revisited your work recently, and was drawn in by Drip-Blur. The forging of realism and expressionistic gesture results in a vibrant painterly approach. I appreciate the soft modeling of the background as being less regular than the other figurative work Duality; it supports the sweeping dripped line and patches of opaque white pigment. The small area of shadow revealed under the large blur also balances out the visual weight of the body and anchors the image. Compositionally, I also enjoy the cropping of the arm/elbow that barely meets the top edge of the picture frame, and downward cast of the head, which moves me circularly around the space. The first two pieces in your portfolio appear to be handled in a more controlled and straightforward manner. While I appreciate the technical proficiency of the direct representation, the merging of the figure with abstracted shapes and line offers a shifting dynamic and arguably more personal exchange. As these were posted some years back, I wonder if you’ve continued to explore this aesthetic intermingling of forms.
