Curator’s Comments:
These are wonderfully fresh forms, that conjure alien artifacts, or architectural vestiges. This seemingly untitled grouping of three works (DSC_9624) looks multi-dimensional, and I’m not sure if there’s a designated front or back to the individual pieces, or if they rely on multi-piece installation. I see a tectonic quality to the forms, recalling ornamental cornices, detached from a larger structure. I enjoy the raw, (bisque?) coloration, which appear to have been constructed from different clay bodies. The uniformity of color and surface allows a fluid connection between heavily contoured and carved relief areas. Looking back through your other pieces on the site, I remember admiring the sculptures which appear to draw from cuneiform objects. This particular grouping is especially intriguing within that context. The work is a wonderful blend of historically inspired traditions and contemporary practice.
