Curator’s Comments:
The cooler color palettes of these works numerically titled Waiting have graceful slopes and understated textural concentration. I find the inclusions of the tissue paper make the ‘ground’ sections of these paintings more tangible, if they are to be viewed as abstracted horizontal landscapes. I’m especially drawn to this specific painting, number IV, because of the slight entry into the space the light on the far right provides. By breaking the value field of graduated blue-violet shadow, it inverts the relationship of the compositional values. Light travels vertically into the space from the very bottom (foreground), and eventually joins up with the lightest tints at the top of the picture plane. This visual lift gives a light sensation, and mood of hope and anticipation.
