Curator’s Comments:
The considered and poetic distribution of empty space instills a sense of calm in this triptych, just as the progression of the organic formations strikes a punctuated visual rhythm. I’ve admired this fluid interplay between seemingly biomorphic and architectural elements in your work previously on the site; this piece is no exception. But the large scale and compartmentalized panels must also impart extended quiet, or stillness in the piece. The pale and shifting horizon line grounds the pictorial space, but it also keeps the imagery ethereal, as in a state of flux. The positioning of the mysterious and composite subjects essentially lose some of their compositional centrality in this work; appearing more as spaces than as fragment of whole objects. I find myself wondering if these works intentionally and centrally play with figure-ground expectations, and are in fact about the very act of seeing and translating more than about presenting exterior ideas. The title of the paintings adds to the enigmatic, unknowable space. A Forest: Listening is more sensory than upfront.
Your work is really beautiful.
