Curator’s Comments:
Rainy Night at the Harbor came up as a featured piece on the site today, and I enjoyed contemplating this painting among your other landscapes, and photographically inspired works. While many of the other pieces you’ve posted could be most accurately categorized as photorealism, this work seems to push beyond local color, and traditional linear perspective for a more expressive display of harbor structures. The buildings on the left angle towards a vanishing point on the not too distant horizon, but then the storefronts beyond the boat appear to turn back around to the viewer, enclosing us in the space. I enjoy the reflected pale blue and red patches on the cobblestones, which inject mood into the landscape, while further connecting foreground and background. The contrast does create a slight amount of ambiguity between water and ground, which is visually pleasing.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
