Curator’s Comment:
Everything’s a Dollar has an immediately fresh and exuberant spontaneity. (Yes- a positive brashness.) As a plein air painting it captures the essence of the scene with its shifting colored light. I find the cool expressive brushstrokes in the cars very appealing- the darker blue values keep them virtually silhouetted against the more intense warm store facades. The staggering of the line of vehicles also develops an organizational structure to the work, complemented by the rectilinear shapes of the architecture. While the title of the piece implies a quick and cheap exchange of goods, I appreciate the abbreviated cropped signage in the actual painting. ‘Everything’ is readable and interpreted in an expansive way and - both in terms of contemporary consumer culture, as well as a more existential approach to personal choice and vision.
I like the brashness of the work. It reminds me of a Tom Waits' song. Great to see someone else residing in VA.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
