Curator’s Comment:
Exile is a lusciously colorful piece. The crackled surface texture of vibrant pinks, orange and blue conveys a dreamlike status, perhaps in between two unearthly realms. I can’t easily make out specific figurations within the organic vacillations as shapes form and dissolve in amorphous clusters or pixilated constellations. But there does appear to be a central human figure within a doorway. The repeated angular shapes along the bottom anchor the piece, as they form a curvilinear bridge, or gate. The brown tones help to balance the saturated warm color throughout the work. You don’t indicate media, but I imagine the pigment could be artificial /acrylic as some of your other pieces share this luminous palette. Origine in particular has a sort of axis mundi, or place where the earth meets the sky. The top section is suggestive of landscape, with a linear green-earth meeting a yellow horizon. But the deep reds and orange effervescence underneath bring to mind molten lava, or a volcanic fissure. The visual tension in these two works is enticing. The beauty of the color and form draws the viewer in, but the agitation of the space and line don’t allow visual rest. There’ something far too concentrated under the surface.
