Curator’s Comments:
Woman in the Bath came up randomly on the site this morning, and I was taken in by the mystery of the drawing. The line quality is reminiscent of William Kentridge- particularly in the agitated lines of what the viewer would imagine to be static forms, such as the edge of the tub. I find the submersion of the body, face down, to be vaguely disturbing. The figure’s position removes her identity, as well as the appearance of a leisurely personal activity. The strong diagonal composition of the work also creates a dynamic tension in what would be expected to be a horizontal pose or arrangement. Looking back through your other drawings and mixed media pieces on the site, I’m struck by the variation in subject and dexterous handling of various media. But from the sacred to profane, your works all employ a mood of clandestine secrecy.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
