Curator’s Comments:
Factory at Dusk is an intriguing image, as it’s not quite urban, and yet challenges expectations of traditional landscape. The stoic quality of the factory is enhanced by the solid dusty blue sky, and yet there is clearly light flickering within. I think part of the reason it’s so visually pleasing is the soft pinkish tonality of the structures, which give off a vaguely organic sensibility. The actual greenery in this carefully composed painting takes on a disquieting darkness, as it obscures the base of the factory in shadow. Looking back through your other paintings on the site, I see that it shares a visual tension with other “occupied” landscape, such as the pieces Invisible Grid and Silence. I also see a similarly in the figurative construct of your industrial elements. Please consider sharing your new work if you’re still active on the site.
