Curator’s Comments:
Remembering the exquisite ink drawings in your Winter series, I enjoyed going back and viewing the piece entitled Fall (8). The abstraction, like many of your other works, is both fleetingly gestural and contemplative of a delicate and complex landscape. The duality inherent in the viewing is an intriguing experience- playing with the totality of taking in a larger scene versus the small, intricate details. It occurs to me the colored pigment in Fall offers depth of space, as the misty white areas appear as fog rolling over a low rising plane. The rust color performs the function of separating these two layers of ground in a manner that moves away from the higher contrast of the black and white, and yet speaks to elemental agents in the air and land. I still find myself contemplating how these works might be experienced in their large physical scale. What appears as choppy line and brush work no doubt commands a more sweeping visual movement across a sixty inch picture plane.
