Curator’s Comment:
I don’t know if your title and reference to Faradis references the ‘gate of paradise’ in a mythic, political or simply geographic way, but I’m afraid that without the history I may be misreading your work. I am, however drawn to it for its purely formal properties. The black and white boundaries of the structures are light and airy- a certain transparency or porosity of space exists between the blue and pink color blocking. The vibrant green ‘grassy’ section in the upper left bears down on the buildings below, but seems to be more of a façade than reality. The modulated yellow-green background is also more painterly and expressive than the foreground of the piece, with the exception of small vignettes of blue-gray texture. I also see the blue waterway splicing the area in halves as exerting a dominant force. But the softened tone doesn’t create too much contrast. I also very much enjoy the second piece, with II in its title designation, though it has more of a jumbled structure than open space. The color scheme is both soothing and inviting, but the composition rebuffs a solid psychological foundation. The buildings aren’t grounded in the traditional sense but float within a cerulean sky. Whether or not another layer of meaning is intended with your work, it effortlessly lures the viewer into the entrancing space. I hope to see more of your work on the site.
