Curator’s Comment:
Fin del Camino is an energetic image, skewing the viewers’ expectations of color and space. I enjoy the visual swing between the thin black contour lines around and into the outstretched figure against the heavier black border. The strong diagonal placement of the figure functions as a pointing arrow to the circular vignette image, which I believe contains a rose. The rosette shape is a bit ambiguous because of the compartmentalized lines within the petals. The pale green ground provides a clean and open space, and nicely complements the warmer orange elements, including the bar of text along the right margin. I find it interesting that the piece, overall, is assured and optimistic, considering the defeatist overtones of the work’s title. It’s as if the figure reaching the end of the road celebrates the final step as a victory.
