Perspective Murder is an ingenious take on landscape.  The worms-eye view offers a dramatic vantage point for the viewer and feeling of spiraling atmospheric perspective.  I like that the further branches are faint in value and cool in hue; receding up past the larger closer boughs, and of course the small murder of crows.  The dappled brown and violet colors within the tree trunk nicely add some warmth to the wintery scene, while the choppy brushstrokes provide variation in texture and painterly expression.  The thin wash of bluish sky is airy and weightless, peeking through the tangle of thinner branches. The crows themselves give the painting an ominous feel; black and inexplicably foreboding.  Of course folklore and world literature offer rich examples of crows as harbingers of information, intelligence, or eclectic mysticism. I’m not sure if any of these associations are intended to be present in this piece, as the title could simply reference the formal concerns.  But looking back through your portfolio, I appreciate the strong narrative tendencies coupled with attention to natural phenomena.
