Curator’s Comment:
I’m enamored by this monochromatic piece, possibly because it’s bookended by two super saturated pieces. Partial to the reductive drawing, I like that it provides glowing whites against dramatic black sections. The primacy of the organic, faintly nebulous shapes is also offset by the thin linear elements. I see the dominant white shape as totemic, enhanced by the pictographic marks in the bottom of the space. The sides feel a little abbreviated, and I’m wondering if it’s been cropped slightly, or actually created in an elongated vertical format. The third piece, a painting titled Meditation (No. 11) offers a rich high chroma system by contrast, surrounding an almost effervescent center void. Again I appreciate the thin lines embedded in the layered pigment, offering visceral texture, and subtle anchors within an otherwise swirling, amorphous space.
