Curator’s Comment:
Intuition is a fitting title for this piece, as the folds and undulations in the organic shapes look to move by an unseen force. I also detect a progressive movement in the painting, as if the imagery is flowing horizontally across the surface. The much smaller dot pattern and delicate honeycomb designs provide an interesting foil to the amorphous wispy fields of color- especially the blue across the top section. I see a strong formal relationship between your figure drawings and non-objective paintings. Your hand is similarly palpable in the elongated strokes, punctuated by smaller dots and dashes. There also seems to be a shared concern for the dissolution of form in the two bodies of work. The figures however do seem to also be about a sort of searching for the mass in space; the uneven edges give slight evidence of struggle or linear tension, as the figure is lost and found again within the picture plane. The more abstracted pieces are more fluid and unbroken. With all of their formal connections to the figurative pieces, these paintings seem to have been liberated of the struggle or need to represent solid matter and are no longer bound by corporeal constraints.
