Curator’s Comments:
Fruits and Paint came up randomly on the site today; it is a pleasure to revisit your work. I was enamored with your expressive portraits several years ago, and now relish the painterly gesture and broken color present in this still life. I find the title rather amusing in its self-referential focus on media and traditional subject matter. It makes me question if the paint is the true subject of the work. The fleshy orange fruit is a wonderful foil to the deeper red-violet hues in the background, and the semi-transparency of the taller glass vessel. The dense compaction of objects central to the composition gives way to more open space on the sides, allowing for some visual rest. I also find it interesting that as solid as the fruit appears, the cloth underneath the forms dissolves into an amorphous, and shifting ground.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
