Curator’s Comments:

Garden Flourish was featured on the site recently, and I had the opportunity to look back through your painterly diptychs. The exuberant marks in this piece are effectively contained by the diptych format, which creates a stabilizing counterbalance to the strongest elements.  The orange linear shapes for instance, that wind through each half of the piece, are not direct reflections of each other, but set up visual tension in a dynamic equilibrium. The organic formations suggest floral forms, but also clouds, and more nebulous bio-organisms in their abstraction. I find the dripped marks at the bottom functioning as a satisfying anchor- they’re stems to the flowers, or simply textural relief from the billowing shapes.  The large scale of the physical work undoubtedly creates the sensation of a pleasing and enveloping botanical expanse.
