Curator’s Comments:
While I have long admired some of your other whimsical metalsmith works, I just stumbled again across your Boudoir Table Lamp. I see it as having a more visceral quality, with compellingly figural elements that remind me of gothic revival iron sculpture. The rounded elements on top that secure the glass perform a solid design function, punctuating the top with regular intervals that balance the elongation of the base. The organic quality also lends itself to an Arts & Crafts sensibility. But ultimately the red fused glass panels add an intense glow to contrast the matte surface of the metal, and ground the lamp into a more contemporary aesthetic. It’s wonderful to see your technical and conceptual versatility on the site, from humorous and fantastical creatures to utilitarian pieces.
