Thank you for your response. I agree that while artists enjoy discussing process it shouldn't override imagery.
Thank you, Ms. Woodward. I very much appreciate your explication as I believe that artists are largely incapable of fully explaining their work and objective public criticism is necessary to place the work in its proper context. The only manipulation of Horizon was in its enlargement. I only processed areas that I wanted to emerge from the photo paper. I could explain in detail but I think that would remove the intrigue of the image, it is after all about the result. Thank you again!
Curator’s Comments:
This is such an elegant piece. The diffused light around the abstracted subject keeps a suspension of mystery. A vessel like shape seems to diverge from an aqueous ground. I’m curious as to how much of the original image was manipulated in the process? The muted pinkish tones and blacker areas imply a figure ground relationship, while the higher chroma yellow splashing across the top right reads as pure light. I also detect more ghostly burned out images in the bottom section, which read as a reflection, if not an echo of the larger forms. I’m also very attracted to the distortions in Kinesthesia of Internal Prayer. While I can more readily make out figures in the space, they also seem to dissolve into the heightened mood of collective, mass worship. The dark heart shape centrally anchors the piece in much the same way as Horizon Window. The streaked subtle color appears as flame in this work, whereas your smooth manipulation in other works suggests water, air, earth.
