Curator’s Comments:
I’ve come across Windless several times on the site over the years, and each time have admired the quiet mystery of the piece. Not quite a portrait, the subject is as obscured as much as he is revealed in plain sight. The misty surroundings suggest a cold autumnal or winter landscape, with bare trees poking into the white sky. This graphic crossing of dark limbs on a light ground are subtly countered with painterly warm glazes in the bottom of the work. The little bit we can make out of the figure in shadow suggests he is a contemporary man, alone in a still forest. I believe the mood of quiet is enhanced by the larger proportion of sky than ground. The piece appears somewhat unique in approach when viewed alongside your other more abstracted or surreal paintings. While media isn’t indicated I’m struck by the photographic type depth of field, emphasizing certain elements in nature, while blurring others along our periphery.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
