Curator’s Comments:
Glimmers in Silver came up in a random selection on the site today. Assuming the dimensions noted of the piece are in inches, it’s small scale packs a surprisingly strong punch. The bold brushwork in the blue-gray sugar dish gorgeously translates surrounding reflective color. The choice of warm orange hues in the bottom of the simple still life also superbly contrast the complementary blue tones above. I appreciate the slight diagonal positioning of background elements, as it prevents the centered subject matter from presenting as a static object. Day at the Beach appears to capture numerous and more complex forms with similarly quick brushwork, perhaps in an alla prima manner. These formally based paintings are quite different aesthetically from your fantasy-oriented portraits, and I marvel at the way you can shift technical approaches to suit different subjects. As these works were all posted some time ago, I do hope you will consider posting new images to the site.
