Curator's Comments:
Within the series of paintings God’s Appointment Book, I’m attracted to the slightly enhanced value contrast in this piece. (4.18.10) The active pattern of dots within the larger gridded square suggests a plan within a plan, or underlying layered geometry. Confetti-like in their tiny bright colors, the dots are dispersed too evenly to be the result of a random act. As the viewer seeks further order within the “intelligent design”, they are instead rewarded with rhythmic repetition and visual variation. A puzzle of sorts, squares of the same hue conspire to remain separate, and are not connected through a known order or symmetry. I appreciate the larger dimensions indicated on the work, which suggests a human scale.
