Curator’s Comment:
I’m attracted to the figural disembodiment and immersive patterning maintained throughout your large body of work, particularly in what appear to be your more recent collages. This particular piece seems to cull appropriated medical imagery or illustration, offering cyclical phases of development or transmutation. The appearance of the small human figure along with the cross-contoured female form insinuates reproductive growth or development. But the scanned (brain) imagery on the baby includes more ambiguously baleful intentions. I also find the selective emphasis and reassertion of the smaller diagrammatic images quite interesting- the proximity of the radiating lines initially reminds me of Haring’s radiant baby, but they’re expanded further beyond symbol or caricature for multiple, and ambiguous narrative interpretations. The box constructions are also striking, but much more subdued in color and contrast. I’m most personally drawn into the constructed pieces that are reminiscent of childhood dioramas. Rather than employing overly designed assemblage, there’s a surprising innocence and idiosyncrasy to the placement and narrative- such as White House and Forrest in a Box.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
