Curator’s Comment:  

 

Happy New Year!  The painting by this title is a cheery, vivacious greeting to the new year- charming in its multi-hued color and animated upward movement.  The rooster’s rainbow tail feathers are beautifully balanced by the softer focused background containing cool snow covered pines.  I especially like the subtle transition of warm to blue light graduated from top to bottom, serving as a simulated sunrise.  The textural detail on the bird’s head, body and grass below nicely counter the smoother handling of the feathers and pale winter sky. Visually, the faintly surreal horizon line also skillfully dips down to meet the rising arc of the rooster’s back, and mounded earth.
