The solidity of shape in this painting caught my attention, but with the emphasis on what seem to be torn edges, I would have thought it a paper collage rather than an oil painting.  The figurative presence is powerful- I admire the organic undulations throughout the elongated composition that suggest contraposto in the context of a human torso.  I also see the influence of the Southwest, though the color for me reads as purely organic rather than specifically connected to a landscape. Its bold warm color does make it stand apart from your other pieces posted on the site, though I also like the more subtle drawing and frottage. The “grotesque” mandelas exert a similarly organic quality, though I struggle to make out specific figurative elements. The smudgy contours and crevices made from the rubbings give the images unique textural qualities, suggesting abraded stony surfaces. Each image seems to be reaching for the core, or essence of a human mystery.
