I’m very drawn to these sculptural works, which enigmatically straddle abstraction and the oblique promise of utilitarian function.  The faintly pearlescent and weathered metallic surface of Lesser belies the contrasting rigidity of the structure, and reference to a mathematical equation. The overall triangular shape has a certain dynamic in unequal measures; as is the economy of the interior with unevenly occupied space.  It is image and object simultaneously, with spheres floating and merging within the quizzically defined boundary.  While found objects aren’t identified in the media listed, the balls within the wooden triangle are reminiscent for me of a billiard rack, which in and off themselves call to mind geometry in play.  Soft Control I is also a strangely alluring work.  Possibly more organic in nature, there is compelling tension between the solidity of the three-dimensional forms and the painted support.  The more regular arrangement of the spheres in this piece suggests progression or sensory movement in addition to the variation among natural objects.
