Curator’s Comments:
I Brought You Flowers resurfaced on the site today in a random selection of images. I’m drawn into the ethereal composition which connects the figure’s curling arcs of snowy hair to the cluster of white orchids below. The slight blueish tonality in the piece reminds me of photographic polarization, but the values appear to remain true to the living subjects. The artful dissolution of form on the left-hand side of the portrait offers the sensation the figure is emerging out of the light to meet our focus. But the profile and closed eyes of the model also sets up a voyeuristic entry into the dreamy space. I appreciate the contrasting diagonal element that cuts across the picture. Too straight and black to be read easily as a plant stem, the line pierces the figure’s soft halo of hair and thrusts a contrasting disruption into the sensual flow of light forms. I appreciate the manipulation of the feminine form throughout your images on the site as they shift in and out of cloudlike volumes of cloth, and floral veils. As the latest piece was posted more than a decade ago, I’m wondering how your practice has emerged today.
