Curator’s Comments:
Grazing popped up during a random viewing, and though while I must have seen it before in your portfolio, I’m struck now by both its freshness and visual complexity. The photographically based figures sit on top of a more stylized horse, which nicely works against the more gesturally random marks in the background. The fine sepia hues bring the piece together with its disparate levels of realism and tactile engagement. While there is an underlying foreboding in some of the pieces suggesting arduous journeys…burning and encroachment, Grazing has a less ominous presence. Not quite in a fairytale realm, the twin figures atop the horse evoke childhood innocence or wonder. I do hope you’ll continue to post new work on the site.
