Curator’s Comment:
I’m afraid some of the nuance of your work may be obscured in viewing your paintings in the on-screen format, as the detail in this piece is exceptional. The broken color is wonderful- quite unexpected in its’ sudden shifts from very warm to cool, but fully realized and solid. The shadow on the subject’s slightly drooping eyelid frames an affecting, soulful gaze when viewed in this intimate detail; a more lucid expression is visible in the complete portrait. The overall modeled surface of the skin further animates the face, but the still background counters, and moderates the mood. This painting also stands out from than the other portraits in that it goes beyond classical refinement and representation. I’m also attracted to the first multi-figure large charcoal drawing. It questionably offers a single scene narrative – the vertical divide of the space between the two halves also intimates past & present scenes.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
