Curator’s Comment:
This is a very engaging, abstract cityscape. I like the organization of the vast assortment of lines/roads and passages. The image does seem to split on the left, in an asymmetrical diptych, with the curving arc creating a vignette of cooler, more open blue space. There seems to be a Cubistic sensibility, in the overlapping array of rectilinear forms and geometric elements. The figurative shapes in the bottom area, though fractured, lend a sense of scale. There’s no clear, direct entrance or exit into the labyrinth environment, but the figures aren’t trapped into the more confining configuration above them. For me, the painting achieves a harmonic unity through the chaotic movement in its restriction of palette- the dominance of blue and gold set up a rhythmic synchronization and temperate balance. This is appealing work- I hope we see more on the site.
