A step into the Future

Curator’s Comments: 

 

A Step Into the Future came up today, and I wouldn’t have recognized it stylistically as your painting in the context of the more representational works I’ve previously admired. (Though now I see a formal relationship to Colour Fusion.) The radiating design creates a dynamic foil against the small vignette of the detailed picture within the interior circle. The dark coat/garment of the tiny figure is also nicely balanced with the blackish square shape diagonally to its left, creating two focal areas of interest.  I see the arched line that connects them as functioning as an expressive gestural element, but it is also reminiscent of a diagram for the Fibonacci series in the context of the stepped shapes radiating off of the portrait.  The square format perhaps adds to the tension between the divided off sections within the piece.
