out my window, mountains

Random searches on the site often take me back to past works that I somehow missed when they were initially posted, or that I see with fresh eyes years later. This untitled geometric landscape is an intriguing piece, and yet doesn’t evoke the same type of Diebenkorn color palette and division of space that I admired in a similar untitled painting three years ago. Your notation for IMG 6799 indicates the work was inspired by mountains outside your window, but the surreal overlay of the tinted square suggests a more theatrical setting than actual space, such an event horizon. I enjoy the value pattern, which provides some atmospheric perspective within the hard-edged abstraction. Intense streaming lines of color appear to pierce the central square, and cascade off the edge of the closest plane to the viewer, against the backdrop of a solid mountain-scape. The space is therefore initially recognizable, and then turns towards a dramatically unsettling space in which we have no footing.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
