Curator's Comments:
These hard-edged abstractions offer an abundance of visual gratification with fresh, vibrant forms. Many offer the sensation of an abstracted landscape interrupted by alternating horizons, such as the numerically designated 6849. The blue triangular shape which appears to recede past a turquoise horizontal plane is vaguely reminiscent for me of Diebenkorn’s Ocean Park series. The darker and lower chroma hues at the bottom serve to ground the composition, while the thin red line moves more quickly on an opposing diagonal. IMG 6809 even more directly references landscape, and amps up the visual contrast of color saturation. I was quite surprised to revisit your earlier pieces in the viewing process, as those works strike me as more painterly and haptic in their irregularity. Whereas I liked the earlier tension between order and chaos in those hand-worked designs, these recent works delve fully into environments choreographed from sharp edges of color. Removing expressive brushstroke pulls me into the open fields. Thank you for sharing these beautiful new works.
