This untitled work is beautifully nuanced in its inclusion of its fractured portraiture.  Since I don’t see dimensions noted or the physical edges of the actual piece, I do wonder if I’m viewing a detail of a larger image.  I do hope that is not the case, as the design decisions are quite subtle and refined.  The linear striations on the face function as sculpting contour lines, and connect to the mixed media and textured fibers in the collaged inclusions. The small amounts of black staining/wash also nicely echoes the calligraphic lettering, and articulate the boundaries of the other organic shapes.  The adjacent piece entitled Royal has a similar treatment of portrait and abstract elements, but is arguably less integrative or intuitive.
