Curator’s Comments:

The thin, leggy saplings cutting through the lavender ground create a wonderful contrast to this lush Southern landscape.  Your tags describe plein air paintings executed in Florida and Georgia, as well as Colorado and Italy.  I’m guessing the former rather than the later for this piece. The abstracted Spanish moss or clusters of leaves hanging from the top of the picture plane create a plumy frame for the similarly constructed free forms.  The cool violet tints mix beautifully with the secondary orange patches in the background, offering a color palette that mutes and softens otherwise tropical haze.  I also like the appearance of the dappled ground, and the way this light effect climbs up the brown tree trunk in the foreground.   The previous image of the cemetery appear even more lush with the higher intensity orange and violet- a seductive color mix for the considerably more somber landscape.  Both the vertical tombstone and horizontal bench take on a figurative note, and intimate a quite dialogue taking place between them.
