Great i love New York.
Curator’s Comment:
In My Neighborhood is a dizzying foray of dense construction and gesture. The loose sway in the towering architectural structures creates a sensation of wavering instability, but the densely packed buildings keep everything in close alignment. I really enjoy the line quality in your work- there is an alluring confidence to the swirling motion, but the impenetrable masses are jam packed into the space. Lemon Tart, though quite different in its focus on a small scale interior, sets up the same rhythmic density of space with destabilizing, tilting perspective. The floor tiles rise up to meet the pile of pastel colored dishes. The layering of broken color accentuates their loose piling on top of one another- perhaps providing the viewer a slight aerial perspective before they come crashing down. I also find it interesting the figures are more abstracted and distorted than their immediate surrounds. While the server with the gold hoop earring in Lemon Tart is well modeled with local color and shadow, his massive hand interrupts the two sections of floor, confusing the figure ground relationship. The interchanges and energy are palpable. Both works fluctuate between outward formal structural and gesture, creating a wonderfully expressive, if not precariously volatile world.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
