Curator’s Comment:
This untitled work- possibly a painting- captured my interest. The flatness of the overall space on my screen makes we wonder if it’s digitally generated or a more traditional analog media. But the qualities I like about it are the spidery web-like veins running through the organic fragments. The black interstices between the pieces functions as a compositional divider and masking void. While the partitioning of the separate areas is organizationally unifying, the startling interruption is very compelling. The dark areas can conversely be viewed as ground, with the pieces floating and arranged on top. The small white on black honeycomb vignette in the top/middle center is also an intriguing focal point. It suggests a beehive or coral- a vestige of another greater whole. It also visually reverses the darker patterns on the white ground. The first untitled piece in the series you’ve posted is more subtly evocative. Without the graphic contrast of space and edge, the blue green amorphous hues are less succinct, but also offer a mysterious space in which the viewer can pleasurably go astray.
