This intense painting, in a series of other active abstractions, was posted many years ago.  But when it appeared on the site today I was pleased to revisit the organic articulations with high chroma hues.  The heavy outlines create a compartmentalization not unlike stained glass.  Within the black dividing contours, I appreciate the modulations of color and value, along with what read as open white sections, or interstices.  Your poetic statement accompanying the work directed me to make out the deliberate figural imagery, which I may have otherwise interpreted as suggestive rather than intended portraiture.  The graphic tension between the elongated lines and smaller curvilinear shapes suggest a kind of stretching, or pulling within the picture frame. This could be what you refer to as “flow”. I see a similar balance and tautness in the works enumerated under the Intense title category. They all vividly capture the imagination and create a visual flow of energy suggestive of creation itself.  I do hope you’ve continued this series over the years, and would love to see some of your new paintings on the site.
