Curator’s Comments:
At first viewing, Interior appears very different from your other vibrant and lyrical abstractions. Organizing the space in a more predictably representational manner, the viewer is able to ground the patterns from within, from the floating checkerboard flooring to the alternating window blinds. But I still detect an individually developed aesthetic leaning towards small and tightly clustered groups of disparate shapes balanced by surprisingly larger planes of emptier lower chroma color without significant transition. I’m also struck by the inclusion of cast shadows behind the doorway and cabinet. Other objects within the room appear to float, such as the sofa and requisite coffee table. It’s a playful depiction of the familiar, while teasing viewers with small shifts in spatial expectations. It also occurs to me that the black pillow on the sofa forms a figurative stand in of sorts, with its counterpoint seen as a black chair in the shadows of the adjacent room. Positioned at roughly figure-height, they stand out as decidedly organic against the grid of the architectural framework of the rooms.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
