Curator’s Comment:
The title ‘Interlude’ perfectly expresses the melodic tempo of this piece. The intervals of organic figuration and ground are nicely played, as the broken blue horizontal element moves through the painting creating a dissonance to the warmer amorphous forms. There seems to be opaque white pigment scumbled across the darker areas, further muting the contrasting edges of the shapes. The red and ochre also has a soft, chalky quality because of the diffused layering. The balanced gray spaces punctuate the more saturated primary hues, and provide a necessary visual pause. While scale isn’t indicated on this piece, I imagine it would have a landscape orientation on a large scale. I also find this particular work to be a sound intersection between your harder edged geometric works, and the more complex curvilinear structuring of Cornucopia.
