Curator’s Comments:

Folly attracted my attention today with it’s soothing and alternating bands of land, water and sky. I appreciate how the inclusion of the smallest line of weathered fence along the bottom of the image grounds the composition, and space for the viewer. Atmospherically, we appreciate the attention to the thin blades of green grass, as they contrast the texture of the smooth water and stark sky. The opposing diagonals of the water lines and marshy area in the middle ground also keep the landscape from being too predictable, or sedentary.  It’s as if that slight flux of ground belies the expectation of a steady, unmoving boundary.  I’m curious about the title of the piece.  Without any other clues or context to provide a clear narrative, one can only imagine that the fence line hints at a failed human intervention to control gently rising waters.
