Curator’s Comments:
The painting Adam and Eva has a primordial feel, expressive with undeniable primal tension. Their physical division though the diptych format stresses the polarity of opposites, or the duality of two conflicting halves. I enjoy the rough, almost impastoed surface of the paint in the first panel, along with the smoother more translucent handling of the flesh on the right. They hot pink and red tonality separates them from their natural and lush surroundings, supporting the Biblical narrative of expulsion. But I also interpret a crude quality in their expressions; or lack thereof. It could be suggesting the female in the pair is dominant, as her largely proportioned upper body leans slightly forward, seeming to lead her companion, who lags slightly behind.
