Curator’s Comments:

I tend to be immediately drawn to your organic abstraction and non-objective works, but the organizational structure of the painting Sheet and Socks is quite spectacular.   The presentation of mundane household items against a similarly colored patterned motif compares and contrasts their inherent figural designs and extensions. The sharp compositional division that further separates them in my opinion is what is particularly striking.  While presented in rather local color and a believable special arrangement, the formal division surprises the viewer with competing orientations of the objects filling the space.  The clothes line, complete with classic wooden pins, is fainting nostalgic while providing an abrupt diagonal slicing of the barely visible pale sky.  The slight sway in the second and lower clothes line imbues the shape with a softer edge, while cleverly reminding the viewer the sheet inhabits the same figure-ground environment.  I also see the rectangular format as slightly stretched – elongated from the traditional format- but this only enhances the vertical sweep between ground and sky.
