Curator’s Comments:
I like these paintings which appear to glean imagery from 50’s /60’s pastiche as they artfully blend pop elements with more expressionistic sensibilities. City of Sin is perhaps the most interesting of the grouping in that the sources are less specifically ad based, but maintain an indeterminate aesthetic regularity. While media also isn’t indicated, the interruption of the separate pieces by simulated torn/painted edges could also a clever jab at the construction of similarly stylized postmodern collage. Where seemingly actual cut and pasted segments are visible, as in the reclining pink nude female figure in A Kiss for You, no attempt is made to integrate the inherent formal properties of the drawing or assimilate the dissonant sexual implication of the subject. I find many of these works to be strange forced unions of competing gestural and graphic images, which ultimately offers a fresh reprieve from both.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
