Curator’s Comments:

Joshua Tree came up in a random search of images, and it caused me to pause and take another look at your landscapes.  I have admired the atmospheric qualities of your paintings in the past, but Joshua Tree has an interesting dynamic because of the proportion of sky to land.  The saturated blue hues at the top of the composition create a strong suspension of visual weight.  Whereas some of your other works appear to celebrate the stability and strength of ground, I find this work is less about place than air.  The integration of some cooler hues in the distance promotes a sense of spatial depth, but the slight curvature of the land on both sides of the picture plane cradles and lifts the viewer in the space, back up into the graduated cobalt and cerulean expanse.  I realize these paintings were posted several years ago, and I hope to see what you’re doing today.
