Curator’s Comments:

This exuberant abstraction caught my attention recently, although it was posted many years ago.  I’m attracted to the spatial qualities that alternate between flat, painterly brush marks that sit on the canvas surface, and the more volumetric passages of form, as in the grey cloud-lie formations in the left center edge of the painting.  The open yellow to pink expanse in the top of the piece also sets up a loose figure-ground relationship with the denser shapes below. The title, k Tone Poem Personal Physics, conjures a sense of inner reflection and possible turmoil.  Looking back at your other pieces on the site, I remembered admiring and commenting on the lighter piece entitled Stacey Returns in Lilac Season to Bow to The Teachers Within and Without. Similarly composed with organic modulations, the k Tone piece has a decidedly stronger contrast in its value pattern, and a less predictable concentration of hues. Perhaps in this moment I’m more attracted to work that strikes a slightly dissonant chord. I would very much like to see where your practice has taken you- please consider posting new work.
