Curator’s Comments:

Welcome to the site! I’m enjoying the considerable variation in the work you’ve posted so far. KA-Boom is an amazing watercolor, in terms of form and scale. At first viewing, the piece sets up to read as a non-objective composition; the curved white rectangles break away from an underlying grid, and dissipate along the edges of the picture frame. Pale traces of violet wash provide residual cast shadow, but traces of color both substantiate and negate the solidity of their forms. The dense marble patterned spheres are actually quite realistic, when considering their individual rendering. I enjoy the way they unexpectedly float within the more abstracted light ground.  I’m also struck by the dynamic distribution of visual weight in the piece.  The marbles form a small cosmic cluster in the top half of the painting, and the few falling white rectangles trailing down the page are their only counterweight. I must also comment on the scale noted of the painting. The large format no doubt impacts the viewers’ response to the work, and supports the contradictory sensations of corporeal presence and weightlessness.
